Modest Strides offers a grassroots soccer program designed for Muslim girls ages 11-14. Because true growth for a young Muslim girl encompasses both body and character, our program is structured to guide your daughter to honor her faith while building her skills, confidence, and community.

Program Details

Age Group: Girls ages 11-14 (cannot turn 15 before December 5, 2026)

Skill level: We welcome all skill levels. Grassroots programs are beneficial for beginner and experienced players due to the low pressure environment that keeps the game fun. Low pressure doesn’t remove the seriousness that comes with competition; it just removes the “must win at all costs” mentality. Beginner players will benefit from focusing on the fundamentals, and experienced players will benefit from the leadership qualities that come with peer mentorship.

Season Structure: We will participate in the Youth Soccer League at SCOR (Sports Center of Richmond) that runs from December to February and is held indoors on a turf field. Practice is once a week for 1-hour at SCOR and will begin the week of November 15, 2026. The exact time and week day is TBD, but it will be held after Maghrib, inshaAllah. There are 8 games total for the season. The full weekend game schedule will be visible in DaySmart. This is the software SCOR uses to manage the teams in their league.

Coaching Philosophy: We use the Play-Practice-Play methodology from U.S. Soccer to balance training the girls to achieve their fullest potential with mentorship, recognizing that the skills a Muslimah develops on the field (discipline, resilience, and teamwork) are the same skills that shape her character. We emphasize participation and fun over the final score, helping Muslimah youth build self-esteem and a positive association with physical activity. Our goal is for each player to get at least 50% playing time per game, inshaAllah.

Equipment: If your daughter has never played indoor soccer before, you will need to purchase shin guards, a Size 5 soccer ball, and indoor soccer cleats (or athletic/running shoes). She will also need a water bottle and small healthy snack to replenish herself after practice. We require families to have their daughter wear a hijab and sports bra during practice and games. Please ensure her hijab is worn in a way that it doesn’t unravel or slip back.

Investment Breakdown

When we divide the league and practice costs by a roster of 12 girls, the fee breaks down to $235/player (not including other operational expenses). Alhamdulillah our donors help alleviate some of the costs, allowing us to charge $120/player (early registration) and $160 (late registration). Because of this, we do not offer sibling discounts.

Our registration fee includes a modest uniform jersey, helps cover a portion of our team registration fee ($840/team), and a portion of our practice facility rental fees for the season ($1,980).

If you do not have a SCOR membership ($20-$30/year), you must purchase one. This fee is separate from our registration fee and must be paid directly to SCOR. We will help parents do this at our orientation. You can also do it online by yourself or at the front desk on our first day of practice.

Still interested? Complete our online registration form below. Space is limited to 12 players to maintain the quality of coaching and attention each Muslimah youth deserves.
